LODGE CENTRAL FREE STATE No. 35
Festival of Installation and Re-Consecration - 30 May 2026
Lodge Central Free State No. 35 celebrated a landmark occasion on 30 May 2026 with the
Festival of Installation, Re‑Consecration and Installation of Worshipful Brother Dirk
Cornelius Smit as Presiding Master for the 2026–2027 Masonic Year.
The event was attended by distinguished members of Grand Lodge, Provincial Grand Lodge
and visiting Brethren from across South Africa. The ceremony marked an important chapter
in the nearly century-long history of the Lodge, whose lineage of Worshipful Masters dates
back to 1926.
One of the most significant moments of the day was the presentation of the Charter of
Re-Consecration. Most Worshipful Brother Godfrey Stuart Place OSM, Grand Master of the
Grand Lodge of South Africa, formally presented the Charter of Re‑Consecration to
Worshipful Brother Ari Abatzoglou, Presiding Master of Lodge Central Free State No. 35 for
the 2025–2026 Masonic Year.
The Charter symbolised the continued regularity, authority and recognition of the Lodge
under the Grand Lodge of South Africa and reaffirmed the Lodge’s commitment to
preserving the principles and traditions of Freemasonry for future generations.
A principal highlight of the Festival was the installation of Worshipful Brother Dirk
Cornelius Smit as Presiding Master of Lodge Central Free State No. 35 for the 2026–2027
Masonic Year. Following the closing of the previous Masonic year, the Installing Officer
conducted the ancient and dignified ceremony of Installation, after which Wor. Bro. Dirk
Cornelius Smit assumed the Chair of King Solomon.
Following the installation ceremony, Worshipful Brother Francois Dauth formally handed
the Charter of Re‑Consecration to the newly installed Presiding Master, Worshipful Brother
Dirk Cornelius Smit. This symbolic act represented the transfer of stewardship and
responsibility to the incoming Master and marked the beginning of his term of office.
Another highlight of the proceedings was the presentation of a special trophy by Right
Worshipful Brother Marcel de Kock to Worshipful Brother Douglas Marius Sansom in
recognition of his exceptional performance and dedication within the Ancient and Accepted
Scottish Rite.
The Festival concluded in a spirit of harmony, fraternity and celebration as Brethren
gathered for the Festive Board, reflecting on a memorable day that honoured both the
proud history and promising future of Lodge Central Free State No. 35.
So Mote It Be.
